2003 GMC Envoy
The GMC Envoy comes back in 2003 without the side impact airbags, but is available
with an optional V8 engine for the first time. Other features are basically the
same as the previous year's model, except for the new colors (Carbon Metallic
and Silver Green Metallic) and larger fuel tanks (25-gallon for the XL and 22-gallon
for the Envoy) that the new model has. For this year, the GMC Envoy continues
to be the luxury mid-size SUV it has been known for years.
The GMC Envoy is still available in four trims with the XL model for those who
want a longer and roomier SUV. The Envoy can accommodate 5 passengers while the
XL model accommodates 2 passengers more. Both is equipped with the Vortec 4200
Inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 275 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The new
Vortec 5300 V8 engine that produces 290 hp and can tow as much as 7,200 lbs is
available as an option for the lengthier XL model. Other powertrain features remain
the same like the 4-speed automatic transmission and the Auto Trac system available
for the 4WD models.
The 2003 GMC Envoy is still feature packed, like the previous models. The SLE
trim for both models are equipped with cruise control, air conditioning with dual-zone
manual controls, power steering, windows, door locks and a tilt leather-wrapped
steering wheel combine with cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with lumbar adjustment,
second row split folding seat, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/CD player. The
SLT trim, on the other hand, adds leather upholstered, 8-way power front seats,
memory settings (driver seat and mirror), dual-zone automatic climate control,
steering-wheel radio and climate controls, rear radio controls, rear headphone
jacks, and the OnStar system on the standard features list. Although no longer
standard, the front side-impact airbags still come as an option for an added cost.
