GMC Envoy Problem
Since it was introduced in 1998, the GMC Envoy has received many a number of
both good and bad reviews. The ability to combine power, capability, roominess
and comforts in a single SUV has always been the subject of good reviews. Bad
reviews and commentaries, on the other hand, would almost always point to the
poor handling stability, the use of an inline type rather than a V-type engine,
and the technical problems often discovered in GMC Envoy's bought.
Poor handling has always been a problem for the GMC Envoy. Although it is a known
fact that the handling capabilities of SUVs are really not that good compared
to sedans, the handling capability of the GMC Envoy is unacceptable even for a
SUV. This has always been the problem of the GMC Envoy ever since it was introduced
in 1998.
Another issue for the GMC Envoy is the use of the Vortec 4200 Inline type engine
as its standard engine. Although it is aimed to provide better fuel economy, it
cannot meet this expectation, as simpler inline type engines provide better economy
than the more complicated Vortec. Further, it rates just a bit better than the
Vortec 5300 V8 engine which can provide the Envoy with more useful power.
Another problem with the GMC Envoy are the technical problems found in the major
powertrain parts, much of which were also issued with recalls. Among these are
the failures in the different parts of the engine like the fuel pump assembly,
fuel pressure regulator, the 4.3-liter V6 SFI Vortec engine, and the canister
purge vent solenoid. Transmission and drivetrain parts also experiences occasional
problems like the transfer case encoder motor assembly and the transfer case output
speed sensor for the 4WD models of the GMC Envoy. An occasional problem is also
reported for the front wheel speed sensor.
